Guest Houses and B&Bs

Home > Accommodation > Guest Houses and Bed & Breakfasts

Sharing a family home, in the way that often happens in small B&Bs, is to gain an insight into Scottish family life. It’s also informal, hospitable and an economical way of seeing the country.

The small bed & breakfast establishment is a Scottish institution. Strictly speaking, a B&B offering an optional evening meal is really a guest house. However, strict definitions aside, the important element is that you are in someone’s home, though the vast majority of bedrooms will have a private bathroom and most will have tea/coffee making facilities.

You will probably share a lounge with other guests and you may be offered tea and home-bakes as a kind of late evening refreshment. If not, then there is always the traditional Scottish breakfast to enjoy. Overall, the experience will be warm, friendly and easy on the wallet.
